Anglers can compete in these for prizes . It usually involves competitors angling for a certain type of fish that fits into length and size guidelines caught within a certain period of time.

Large competitive circuits have evolved where professional anglers are supported by commercial endorsements.
These anglers are not involved in commercial fishing, even though they gain an economic reward from participating in competitions .
These competitions can be further divided into two types
: Derbies and Tournaments .
The main difference between the two being that tournaments require fish to be released after catching and judging and Derbies require fish to be killed
